In a very special look around at who’s-saying-what about video games (who isn’t already us), we cover a trifecta of game awards and announcement events that kept us rapt with attention this past week. Of course there are other items of news, but we focus this time on Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards, the winners and others who were recognized, as well as Nintendo’s Indie Showcase and Sony’s State of Play. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s like fighting 100 ducks inside 1 gigantic horse. Good luck to all of us.

It is, after all, the year of the goose, and our two-man formation is flying strong this week with Jerod and Dale, talking about the games they played. Jerod brings us a double-dose of great and recent picks, with the long-awaited MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, and the much-acclaimed Disco Elysium. Dale gives us a midweek hit of his recent escapades in Assasin’s Creed Syndicate. Get in formation!!

The news rolls on this week, and we hit all the same sections as your national newspapers! Politics, religion, violence, technology, and vaping! We discuss announcements, Halo trending, Campo Santo goes quiet, the Vatican’s Minecraft Server, Jesus returns (on PC), card games are in decline, and more! Plus we cover new releases, freebies, and the 25th anniversary of PlayStation! Have a listen!

Time to dish out our video game playin’ impressions, so we hope you came hungry! In this episode, Dale kicks us off with the PC debut of the big-boy Halo franchise with Halo Reach, newly re-released but still as good as ever! Jeremy spends time with GameByties 2018 unanimous winner, Battletech, and its latest (and final?) expansion, Heavy Metal. LeGrande samples the remastered fare of the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake. Burrrrp. Delicious!

As December rolls up to the club (aka “The GameBytes Show”), the news is hoppin’ (aka “occurring”) up in here and the shawties (aka “Jeremy and LeGrande”) be trippin’ (aka “reporting the news”) and droppin’ it low to the floor (aka “discussing new releases”) and we ran out of clubbing metaphors but we also discuss whether we are ready for all-streaming game services and whether they are ready for us.

In this episode, we definitively squash Jeremy’s predictions with confirmation and details of Half-Life Alyx (and its system specs, ow!). We sniff over the nominees of The Game Awards 2019 and its copious eSports categories, new was to play with friends on Steam, Stadia is HOT, Kojima thinks horror, and we have a pretty good offer on some real-estate for you, if your inventory contains enough cash. Plus, we dig into our wishlist on news of remakes and talk about our current wishlist for a from-the-ground remake.

This week our hosts have played a number of great new games! Of course, these terms are relative, after all, but we’re sure they’re pretty good. And fairly new. They pass the whiff test. This week, LeGrande has been playing the sandwich-spread-sounding Pistol Whip, which he says is the best VR experience he’s had this year. Jeremy navigates the idea of “pretty mutants” (we’re still not sure what he meant) in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Dale shares with us the joys of next-gen ziplining in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

In the news of the week we cover the pending launch of Google Stadia which may be tearing a little at the seams, the announcements for Xbox’s streaming service at X019, Bioware’s plans for Anthem, the early renewal of an upcoming game-themed TV show, the rapid change-of-direction for Sonic, and more! Plus, we cover the newest releases, freebies, and we talk about Half-Life 3 on its 15th anniversary and Jeremy absolutely positively does not make a prediction that was proven wrong nearly as it left his mouth.

In this week’s voyage of podcasting entertainment, we eventually get our bearings and set sail for video games! LeGrande plays either The Elder Scrolls Legends or Online, and explores the distinctions between whichever-one-it-was and its nearest competing cousin. Jeremy’s got the beat with the new(ish) Harmonix VR game Audica. Dale gets into a groove of his own with Wargroove, and we discuss what special place it has in its genre, or not.

Outro: “Beauty of Dawn” – The Elder Scrolls Online, by Jeremy Soule, Brad Derrick, Rik Schaffer and Malukah
We think we can see our house from here! And what’s that next to it? It’s video game news! This episode we discuss Shuhei Yoshida stepping down from Sony Worldwide Studios and into indieville. Red Dead Redemption 2 struggles on PC. Gris is misappropriated for self-care. More Twitch streamers are leaving for greener pastures. Singstar Servers will shut down, and American Truck Simulator adds the great state of Utah! Plus, we discuss other video games where the locales make us feel right at home!
